Subway Train Derails in Mexico City, Killing at Least 13

 

A subway train derailed on Monday evening in Mexico City right after a concrete overpass partly collapsed, killing at least 13 persons and injuring scores of other people, the government explained.

The derailment occurred on Line twelve of the subway technique at the Olivos Station in southeast Mexico City, Mexico’s civil safety company said in a post on Twitter.

Preliminary pictures from the web site showed tilted train automobiles, tangled wires and twisted metal. Movies of the derailment launched by the government showed at least a single orange-and-yellow subway car or truck hanging from an overpass.

Carlos Zúñiga Pérez, a tv host in Mexico City, tweeted a video of rescue personnel rescuing injured passengers from a tilted subway car or truck by assisting them down from ladders.

Claudia Sheinbaum, the city’s mayor, said that she was at the web site supporting rescue personnel.

The subway technique in Mexico City, the country’s sprawling capital, handles much more than 4 million passengers a day. It is the 2nd-greatest in the Americas, right after the a single in New York City.

In March 2020, a single guy was killed and at least 41 other people have been injured when two subway trains collided in Mexico City. Ms. Sheinbaum explained at the time that a single of the trains had apparently backed into the other by accident.
